Every Woman Should Know

Every Woman Should Know

A friend shared this poem with me just the other day, and I felt it was so powerful. I am sure many of you have heard it before, but that was my first time. It was actually thought to have been written by Maya Angelou, but that was incorrect. It was posted in Glamour as a list originally. Then it was eventually turned into a book to give the real author credit. I am going to post some photos throughout this poem that I took on my adventure to Strader's Garden Centers (Riverside location). I love flowers so much. I think that they are beautiful. They light me up. I love smelling them, I love looking at them and I love the way they make me feel. They represent so many things. I feel like a flower is a good representation of a woman. That is why I have chosen to share these photos along with this poem. I hope you enjoy.

Things Every Woman Should Have and Should Know

by Pamela Redmond Satran

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE…
enough money within her control to move out and rent a place of her own even if she never wants to or needs to…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE…
something perfect to wear if the employer or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE…
a youth she’s content to leave behind…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE…
a past juicy enough that she’s looking forward to retelling it in her old age…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE…
a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE…
one friend who always makes her laugh…
and one who lets her cry…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE…
a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE…
eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, and a recipe for a meal that will make her guests feel honored…

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE…
a feeling of control over her destiny…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
how to fall in love without losing herself…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
how to quit a job, break up with a lover, and confront a friend without ruining the friendship…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
when to try harder…
and when to walk away…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
that she can’t change the length of her calves, the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
that her childhood may not have been perfect…
but it’s over…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
what she would and wouldn’t do for love or more…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
how to live alone…
even if she doesn’t like it…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
whom she can trust, whom she can’t, and why she shouldn’t take it personally…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
where to go…
be it to her best friend’s kitchen table…
or a charming inn in the woods…
when her soul needs soothing…

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW…
what she can and can’t accomplish in a day…
a month…
and a year…

Do you have these things? Do you know these things? Women are incredible creatures. Women are beautiful creatures. We have a certain power and essence that no man could match. We have the best intuition - our superpower. Even though we are delicate - we are strong. We have a love, an energy and a touch that could shake the world. We are under the scope. We are judged harder than any man. We are misunderstood. We are women.

Here is what I think every woman should know...

Never let a man make you feel like what you are is not good enough. Never let a man make you second guess yourself. Never let a man make your decisions for you. Do not lose yourself. Please keep that mind of your own. Never let a man effect the way you think about yourself - your mind, your body, your career choice or even something as small as the outfit you are going to wear for the day. You are a woman, and the power you have within you is a force stronger than you may even realize. You are you. A lot of times women are jealous of each other or hate each other or are pitted against each other. For what? You are her and she is you. Remember that. Never let a man come between you and another woman. Never sit around waiting for that text or that call - please continue living your life no matter what. The right one will know your wants and needs and do them without you having to ask. Never let a man fool you. Never let a man make you fearful. Never let a man make you think you are anything less than perfect the way you are.

Let me tell you...if someone does not like you - do not change yourself - just let it go and move on. Think about it...if you change yourself in any way because you think someone is going to be more attracted to you, going to love you more or going to want you more...you are setting yourself up for that person to fall in love with someone else. They will fall in love with who you are pretending to be - not who you actually are. And if you are 100% yourself...just image someone falling in love with you that way - effortless.

Moral of the story is...be the woman you were born to be and never be afraid in doing so because nothing but true results can come from it.

Love thyself.
