Over the weekend I went to one of my favorite places for brunch - Portia's Café. The best thing about Portia's is that the food is healthy. It is a vegan spot which there are not many of around here. For those of you who do not know what a "vegan" is, a vegan is one that does not eat meat or dairy. I am not a vegan, but I do try to eat healthy as much as possible. I definitely am not perfect when it comes to what I eat (I mean I am a foodie), but I have gotten way better with my food choices over the last few years.
My favorite thing to order at Portia's is the waffles! You can only get them on Sundays. We had not been in awhile, so we had to go this past Sunday. The one shown in the photos is a half blueberry-half banana waffle. It is BIG, and it is GOOD. Again - completely vegan.
This weekend there was more people than normal there. I am guessing it was due to the amazing weather that we had, so I am not complaining. There were also lots of plants outside for sale. Everyone knows I love taking photos of flowers and such, so that was a pleasant surprise as well.
Portia herself is always in the café working. I encourage you to start up a conversation with her. She is a real sweetheart.
If you have been really wanting to get healthy and make a change in your diet/life - you can do it! You don't have to necessarily become a vegan to be healthy. Something as simple as cutting out processed meats is a good first step. Do your research, stick to it and find the motivation. I gave up fast-food almost two years ago. It was easy after I make it habitual. Once you get in the habit of something, it will become easier.
If you live in Columbus or are over this way on a Sunday, I recommend trying something new - something healthy and new.
